The Man Who Lives His Name:
Shigaku Koe
The people encountered through street performances.
The landscapes that change with the seasons.
And the words that can only be born in a single fleeting moment.
Singer-songwriter Shigaku Koe continues to express his world through the three elements embodied in his name:
Lyrics. 詞 .
Art. 画.
Voice. 聲.
For him, songwriting, illustration, and music are not separate pursuits, but different forms of expressing the same world.
Part 1
Where The Music Began
Shigaku Koe's journey into music began during his high school years.
Originally, he wanted to join the volleyball club. However, because there was no boys' volleyball team, he joined the light music club instead.
What seemed like a chance decision became the beginning of the musical path that continues to this day.
He still enjoys volleyball and often watches Haikyuu!!, a Japanese manga and anime series about a determined young volleyball player.
Perhaps life's turning points begin with small coincidental moments like these.
Part 2
Not the Hero, but the Landscape
Among the many songs he has written, one work stands out as especially meaningful to him:
"Lipstick-colored sunset." 口紅色の夕陽
He considers it the song that best expresses his view of music.
While many songs place the listener at the center of the story, what he values is something slightly different.
" I want to show people a landscape.”
A sunset.
A city street.
The atmosphere of a season.
Colors and scents that exist only in that moment.
His lyrics contain not only stories, but vivid imagery.
Part 3
The Night “Name. “ Was Born
There is another work that remains deeply important to him.
"Name."
There was a period when music was not progressing as he had hoped.
The song was born while he looked up at the night sky above Tokyo.
Although it emerged from a difficult time in his life, the song itself was never dark.
Through the process, he realized something about himself.
"Even during difficult times, I can write bright songs."
That discovery became a source of support that continues to carry him forward as a musician.
Part 4
Lyrics • Art • Voice 詞 • 画 • 聲
The name Shigaku Koe reflects the way he approaches creativity.
In addition to music, he continues to create illustrations.
One of the most recognizable elements of that world is Myon, an original chimera character of his own creation.
The name Shigaku Koe is more than the name of the artist.
Lyrics.
Art.
Voice.
It represents his identity as a creator who brings these three forms of expression together as one.
Part 5
Beyond Kōhaku
When asked about his dream for the future, his answer came without hesitation.
"To appear on NHK's Kohaku Uta Gassen for several consecutive years."
Yet the significance of that goal goes beyond the dream itself.
What he seeks is not a temporary hit.
He hopes to create music that will continue to be loved over time.
Music that remains in someone's life.
Music that endures.
His ambition is to create music that remains in people's lives and becomes part of a shared cultural memory.
Part 6
Mukiae (向き合え) "face yourself"
December 27, 2026
On December 27, 2026, Shigaku Koe will hold his third one-man live concert:
"Mukiae."
From street performances to live houses.
And from live houses to a one-man concert.
The time and experience built step by step have led to this stage.
It will undoubtedly be a meaningful day, both for Shigaku Koe and for those who have supported him along the way.
Afterword
What left the strongest impression during this interview was the genuine warmth he radiated.
"For people who have no interest in music, even a song can become noise."
He does not chase trends.
He sings the music he loves, sharing the landscapes he discovers along the way.
That is the artist known as Shigaku Koe .
